I’m in Oxford, Maryland with the vessel “Valhalla” and Captain Bob O’Brien. Bob is a very experienced sailor and has owned several different boats.
We are making preparations for departure to the U.S. Virgin Islands. We have engine problems and Thanksgiving is slowing the progress. We hope to be on the way in another week.
I will post again before departure.
Well, here it goes. Today is the official launch of my site. It’s 7:00 a.m. in Costa Rica and I’ll leave home for the airport in San Jose at 10:30 p.m. I have a red-eye flight to Baltimore through Huston and if all goes well, I’ll be in Baltimore by noon on Tuesday.
I’m not going to say anything about the captain and the boat until I clear it with him. I will say that the vessel is a C & C Landfall 48 that is located near Annapolis, MD. The destination, route, and departure date are still to be confirmed by the captain. The initial plan is to head to Bermuda, but everything depends upon the wind and the weather. All that is certain is that we will be heading to Caribbean waters.
This will be my first time sailing the Atlantic and my first time in cold waters since 1989. I think that I have prepared with enough layers of clothing to stay warm and dry. I hope that it won’t take too long to hit shorts and tee shirt weather.
I’m looking forward to being on the water again and will keep you updated on the voyage whenever I can. I can be without internet access for extended periods of time, so I can’t promise how often I will post.
